Expectations

Thank you for visiting this page. We appreciate you taking the time to consider the following ideas and questions. Doing so will limit suprises, help you to be more comfortable when you get here, and possibly save you from entering an uncomfortable situation.

Terrain: The topography is varied. This means steep hillsides, rough trails, and deep wet mud in the winter. It would be wise to consider this place wheelchair inaccessible. Do you feel comfortable with mud between your toes? Working here involves physical labour. If you are planning to do any work here, do you have the endurance to get dirty and push your muscles?

Gray water: What goes down the drain in the bathrooms and kitchen is gray water. This includes the shower drains. Chemicals are undesirable. Plants feed off this water. Hair conditioners, body rubs, soaps, and most commercial products of this sort that typically end up washed down the drain are not appreciated by them. If you are not sure your product is chemical free, best use the soaps we make here. In return, you get to enjoy chemical free food hard to find in even your favourite organic shops. Do you mind not using suspect commercial products during your stay here?

Black water: What goes into the toilet we call black water. We compost our black water and it ends up in the garden. This starts with depositing it in a bucket. Only things that pass through your body go into the poo bucket. Exceptions include the bio-char at the bottom, toilet paper, and wood chips or saw dust on top. Nothing else. Benefits include not having to flush the toilet. Are you ok with this?

Food: Shared meals are one of life's main joys. Please help share the cooking and cleanup that comes with it.

Tools: A variety of tools get shared by various people. When planting a tree, would you prefer to simply grab a shovel where you expect it to be or have to first go searching for it? Similarly, when you are in the kitchen and you want to use a knife, would you prefer to simply reach for one or would you like to search and then clean before using it? A job is not complete until the tools you used are returned. In consideration of others, can you return the tools you use to the place you found them in the condition you found them?
